Tinder engages Festival Mode

Updated: Nov 3, 2019

The noise, the buzz, the wrist bands. The people, the atmosphere, the energy. The early mornings and, of course, the late nights. The sometimes sunshine and the sometimes rain. Yes, festival season 2019 has arrived. It’s our busiest season at Realise Live, but also our favourite, with over 10 years of experience in the festival scene.

Right now, it’s boom time for UK festivals with family-friendly and wellness now firm fixtures alongside the original and the established music events. Brands are in on the act and are hard at work creating experiences for their audiences, both new and existing. Audiences, equally, are looking for more than just headline performances, seeking out the wider experience.

Tinder is one of those brands. The app is looking to engage its audience further, making it easier to connect with other festival-goers with the addition of the Festival Mode badge. We were involved in creating bespoke elements for the Tinder space at All Points East and BST Hyde Park, bringing awareness of the new functionality.

We had a lot of fun with this one, creating a hovering butterfly and a giant archway which takes its shape from the Tinder icon. Both elements needed to be self-supporting, weatherproof and super-instagramable for the social-savvy audience.

The hovering butterfly was a thing of beauty. From its CNC-perfect detailing to the iridescent rainbow vinyl which changed appearance depending on the angle and the available light – making each photo individual. Hovering almost a metre off the ground, thanks to a perfectly clear acrylic plinth, and rising to over 2m it was certainly the largest butterfly in Victoria Park.

The giant flame-shaped entrance arch was no less commanding, standing at a proud 5m tall. Constructed from a wooden frame it curved beautifully into shape and was treated to a spray primer and wrapped with the same iridescent vinyl as the butterfly wings. A significantly weighty structure to say the least, it had to be constructed in three pieces and assembled onsite with the addition of strong, steel feet and secured with metal stakes.

Six astroturf-covered cubes completed the area as welcome seating for the festival-weary. All in all, the Tinder space at All Points East was suitably ready for festival mode, as was the app. The installation will also be at BST Hyde Park in early July, so drop us a snap if you’re there.

As for us, we’ll be making appearances this year at BST Hyde Park, Goodwood, Taste London and Boardmasters with Silverstone Fully Charged, All Points East and Junipalooza already under our belts. Phew!
